Colour

As a follow up to the previous post about designing a Corporate Identity I’ve decided to write a bit more about colour as it plays such a huge roll in any form of design or illustration. Although a colour scheme may look visually appealing it may be quite the opposite psychologically. The psychological effects of colour are not quite as important when it comes to illustration but to marketing, colours should be chosen carefully.

These are what I consider to be the best websites for generating a colour scheme:

Colour Lovers – a great site for finding a colour palette or unique colour best suited to your design. The site has thousands of colours and palettes to browse through.

Colour Scheme Designer – this is more of a tool to find a colour that will work with the rest of your chosen colours. There are lots of other tools like this one but I find this to be the easiest to use.

Kuler – pretty much Adobe’s equivalent of Colour Lovers.

This is a great infographic explaining the psychology of colour.

  2. Well, there were really many, IMO way too many studies concerning the choices of colours in our lives. The most interesting part was probably the idea that people concerned about their health and/or suffering from some kind of diseases (?!) choose the colour brown, mostly for their clothes.
On the other hand, colour silver chosen for cars represents the 'wealth and richness of the owner'. I don't quite believe in these things. Still, your post was a terrific read.

  7. I always knew that red was associated with very 'strong' emotions like anger and blue for calm but never knew about the other colors
